Atomized powder is manufactured by melting minimum *9.8% purity magnesium and atomizing molten metal under the protection of an inert atmosphere. A spherical powder is produced which is then screened and blended to customer specifications. By-down products, is powders which pass through a particular sieve are readily available. Powders available in narrow particle size bands, as required by stringent military specifications, exhibit HANAamt's excellent size classification control. Atomized powder is used in many applications because of the following unique characteristics: spherical shape gives an accurate and uniform size distribution. Superior flow characteristics enable high percentages of atomized powder to be mixed with other materials and still retain good flow characteristics and low viscosities.  USE Fine and atomized powders are widely used by the military industry in a range of flare and ordnance applications, notably decoy flares and illumination flares. Decoy flares made from magnesium burn white hot and the intense heat of the pyrotechnic candle consumes the flare housing. Such flares are disigned to defiat a missile's infrared tracking capabillty thus making the use of magnesium instrumental in the protection of military helicopters and aircraft. Ground illumination flares are designed to descend by parachute and illuminate ground terrain and targets.
